What is the Subtle Body?
aka the “Energy Body?”
In yoga, the subtle body refers to the energetic or non-physical aspects of being that exist alongside the physical body. It encompasses concepts like prana (life force energy), chakras (energy centers), and nadis (energy channels). Yoga practices like asana, pranayama, and meditation are used to harmonize and balance the subtle body, leading to increased well-being and spiritual awareness. Writing and creativity can be OTHER pathways into accessing this part of ourselves.
Writing and creativity can also be fruits of the labor when getting to know our subtle bodies. We’ll explore this in the Calm Down Club!
Energy Matters
Energy Matters
What we mean by energy in the subtle body:
Prana:
Prana is considered the vital life force energy that flows through the body, directing the five vayus (subtle winds) which are responsible for various bodily functions.
Chakras:
Chakras are energy centers located throughout the body, each associated with different aspects of our physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being.
Nadis:
Nadis are a complex network of channels that conduct prana throughout the body, with three primary nadis (Sushumna, Ida, and Pingala) playing a significant role in our energetic health.
Koshas:
The subtle body is also connected to the five koshas (sheaths), which are the layers of existence encompassing the physical, energetic, mental, wisdom, and bliss aspects of a person.
WHY WOULD A WRITER OR CREATIVE NEED TO KNOW THIS?
-we work with energy when we create! When we can tap into our energy we can tap into intuition. AND, we need to keep ourselves well as creatives to keep going. Learning about this, alongside generative writing, fun homework and creative community, is what you’ll find in the Calm Down Club. xx.
